10 New Ways to Drink Hot Chocolate!

Hi, everyone! It’s winter, and the best way to celebrate the cold is with warmth! That’s right… HOT CHOCOLATE! I love hot chocolate, but it can start to feel a little plain and boring if you drink it a lot during the season. Here are some fun new ways to drink your hot chocolate!

  1. Spice it up! Add a couple Hot Tamales candies to your hot chocolate, wait a few minutes, and drink your newly spiced hot chocolate! (If you really like spicy things, you can add a lot of candy, but I think I’ll stick with just three or four!)
  2. Double chocolate! (or triple, or quadruple…) This is basically a challenge to add as much chocolate as possible! Drink your hot chocolate with chocolate syrup, chocolate whipped cream, chocolate chips, chocolate sprinkles, or even have a brownie on the side! Whatever you want, as long as it’s chocolate! (Make your own chocolate whipped cream by adding chocolate syrup as you whip heavy cream as normal.)
  3. Marshmallow art! Everyone’s heard of marshmallows in hot chocolate, but for a creative touch, make some marshmallow art! To make a flower, cut 3 mini marshmallows in half diagonally. These are your petals. Arrange them in a flower shape by dropping them gently into your drink one at a time. Ta da – instant sweet art!
  4. Make it a float! Guys, I think Olaf said it best: “The hot and the cold are both so intense, put ’em together, it just makes sense!” Add a scoop of ice cream to your hot chocolate, and then drink it fast before it melts!
  5. Mexican hot chocolate! To turn this plain drink into spicy, cinnamon-y hot chocolate, add about a fourth of a teaspoon of cinnamon. Then top it with a dollop of whipped cream, a tiny (and I mean tiny) pinch of cayenne, and a whole stick of cinnamon for some pizazz (garnish). Yum!
  6. It’s a sundae! Turn your hot chocolate into a sundae! Put all the toppings you normally put on an ice cream sundae into your drink! Add whipped cream, caramel or chocolate syrup, rainbow sprinkles, a cherry, and even a banana if you want!
  7. Cookie-ify it! Everything is better with cookies, right? Absolutely, and that includes hot chocolate! Make (or buy) a batch of your favorite kind of cookies, and when they’re finished, break a cookie into pieces and drop or dip them into you hot chocolate.
  8. Hot mint chocolate! Mint and chocolate: a great combo!!! You see it everywhere: Andes mints, York patties, mint chocolate chip ice cream. To create your own mint and chocolate combination, stir your hot chocolate with a candy cane and then eat it with your hot chocolate, OR add some whipped cream, crush a candy cane, and put it in your hot chocolate.
  9. Grandma’s Original! Homemade hot chocolate, people! That’s right…no mixes involved! According to grandma, the best hot chocolate is made with whole milk or half and half and cocoa powder, sweetened to taste. To top it off, add a dollop of whipped cream and sip a drink full of homemade goodness!
  10. Make some mug art! Plain mugs are very easy to decorate, and make even the plainest of drinks fun to drink! Using any kind of oil-based paint pens, (Sharpies are great!) decorate a white ceramic mug in any design you want. Then bake it for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees in the oven. When 30 minutes have passed, turn the oven off and leave the mug to cool. You now have a cute, easy to make mug! (A good tutorial for monograming mugs with this method can be found on the Glued to my Crafts blog.)
